PROFESSIONAL LICENSING
OVERVIEW |
|
A professional license is the culmination of specialized education, skill, monetary investment and dedication. Licenses are a matter of pride, commitment and a source of livelihood. Because of the specialized skill, education and professional standards involved in many professions, state and local agencies have established and enforced licensing requirements. These agencies can determine whether you are qualified to be licensed in the first instance, whether to renew your license once issued, whether to restrict the manner in which you practice your profession and/or whether to take your license away from you (either permanently or temporarily). A lapse of judgment of your party; an unhappy patient, client, or competitor; a mistaken interpretation of a regulatory requirement; an omission, oversight or mistake in meeting a standard of care or professionalism; even intentional, criminal acts that have no apparent connection to your professional practice (and some that do)-all can bring you to the attention of your licensing authority in a way that you don't want them focusing on you.
Through our past representations in professional licensing matters, we have established relationships with licensing boards and their attorneys that allow us to engage them with issues with your licensing and to negotiate with them the best possible resolution under the circumstances. While each board is different in its approach to licensing matters, especially license discipline, we have developed a sense of what is possible in negotiating a resolution of your matter, can help you in setting reasonable expectations about what can be achieved in the process, and then represent you in your dealings with the licensing board and the licensing process.
Our attorneys have represented professionals before almost every professional state licensing authority, becoming involved at all levels of the process.
